THE MULATTO
Mulatto is term for bi racial people. Victor Sejour was born a free mulatto. His short story, "The Mulatto", highlighted common fates of slave girls and gave a grim reality a voice through fiction. Its purpose was to entertain readers with a suspenseful but sad story and to inform on one of the horrors of slavery. The main character is an enslaved mulatto named Georges. He protects his master from a slave uprising without even knowing that is his father. His father tries to rape Georges wife like he did his mother. His father kills his wife and then Georges kills his fathers white family and finally learning the identity of his father he kills himself. Sejour uses vivid imagery while describing the death in the story and also the beauty of the female victims.
